FIRST GRADE
Goals: The goals at this level are for students to begin to understand that (1) Arkansas hasn’t always been like it is today and that (2) many people from different places and different cultural traditions have contributed to make Arkansas what it is today.
Text: “I can tell you stories if you gather near ” Designed to be used in conjunction with the music CD Arkansas Stories for Young Children, this provides a delightful story highlighting the major ways in which Arkansas has changed during its history.
Support: One Unit Plan containing five lesson plans (each featuring a different of area of change within Arkansas). Each lesson plan is focused on an original story supported by supplemental information (sidebars) and graphics.
Text: “Where did we come from, Grandpa” Designed to be used in conjunction with the music CD Arkansas Stories for Young Children to provide students with an introduction to the many different ethnic and cultural groups who call Arkansas home.
Support: One Unit Plan containing seven lesson plans; one each featuring a different ethnic cultural group as they enter Arkansas. Each lesson plan is focused on an original story supported by supplemental information (sidebars) and graphics.
